Renee van Kessel
Renee van Kessel is a partner at Cohen LLP and has been practicing corporate commercial law for over 19 years. She provides strategic and practical legal advice to business clients on a wide range of corporate matters, including contract negotiations, business law, commercial leasing, marketing, privacy, procurement, intellectual property, information technology and employment law, and has an expertise in real estate regulatory law, providing counsel to many of Canada’s top national real estate brokerages. Her clients range from start-up enterprises incorporating and establishing foundational legal agreements, to substantial national and international corporations with diverse legal needs.
Prior to joining Cohen, Renee practiced for over 10 years as in-house counsel to some of Canada’s best known organizations, including the LCBO, Owl Magazine and Television, and the AIR MILES® Reward Program. Renee volunteers with various international organizations, including the Canadian International Council, and has just completed an advanced degree in National Security and Defence Policy at the Canadian Forces College, Toronto, as the only invited civilian in its history to do so.
Renee received her Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, and her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies at Queen’s University in Kingston. She was called to the Bar in 1995 and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
